In a divorce and/or separation, the welfare of the child or children
is the number one priority. A parent must pick up on the clues that children give to ease the emotional trauma caused by this life-changing experience.
A parent should be very conscious of actions in front of a child because if a parent is It angry, sad, or frustrated, the child will be as well.
When possible, everyday routines should be maintained. The divorce and/or separation is enough of a change for any child to absorb, so the fewer interruptions, the better.
A child's personality, age, and environment are the three primary factors a divorcing and/or separating parent must consider in this difficult experience.
The way a child adjusts to the divorce and/or separation is directly related to how the parent adjusts. Parental success in this depends way on the age, gender, and number of children in the family. Many children react differently depending upon the support they receive from the parents, friends, and relatives. The age at the onset of the breakup is a factor in a child's adjustment.
